Process Industries Academy Advocate:

Position Description:

  • The aim of Bentley s Process Industries Academy is to provide a recognized forum to support the sharing and exchange of best-practice and future next-practices to advance the process industry, creating a lasting legacy that benefits society.
  • The Academy Advocate is the main lead in the Academy. As such, the advocate identifies and creates content on the subject of Going Digital for the Process Industries embracing the underlying BIM principles of jointly developing and extending the people, business processes and underlying technologies, and leads the industry with thought leadership qualities to drive standards, best/next practices and knowledge across the process industry.
  • Manage and help source content for sessions to be held within an Advancement Academy:
    • Speakers
    • Meetings
    • Symposiums/forums
    • Workshops
    • Webinars
    • Events broadcast to other Academies and via the web
    • After hours group meetings
    • Work with local industry to define industry standards
    • Advise local firms on best approaches to going digital
    • Visit key accounts at other venues
  • Ensure that events held in the designated Academy locations, or virtually via webinars or broadcasts, are staged and managed professionally.
  • Identify, invite and arrange professional guest speakers to speak at the Academy.
  • Maintain contact to local BIM or Going Digital initiatives and organisations.
  • Organise Industry specific symposiums, to include the agenda and speakers.
  • Work with industry leaders such as governments, higher education institutions, industry specific institutions and other bodies with the goal to encourage cross discipline communications.


  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the process plant/ process manufacturing industries (preference given to Oil & Gas, Chemical, Petrochemical, Power, Mining, general plant sectors)
  • Degree in one of the process industry disciplines (preference given to advanced Degree)
  • Worked on at least one major capital project > $100mio (EPC or Owner Operator end user)
  • Developed and deployed a Project or Asset Information strategy for a project or within an end-user account
  • Developed at least one EIR (Employer Information Requirements) document
  • Worked on Going Digital strategies at an owner operator level
  • Understanding of Capital Project Delivery/ Execution and Asset Lifecycle terminology
  • Active member of recognized industry institutions (Mechanical, Chemical, Process Engineering, )
  • Active in supporting the development of local or national standards for industry (Government, Industry Institution/ Body, BIM Initiatives, BuildingSMART, etc.)


  • Facilitator - there will be opposing thoughts, and the ability to facilitate between client and supply chain is important.
  • Presenter able to present in front of audiences from 1 to 1000 and from CEO downward.
  • Thought Leader able to provide leadership in new and emerging areas in the digital arena with application to the infrastructure industries.
  • Industry focused Industry experience, rather than technology experience.
  • Well known/ respected within the industry Potentially having run, or assisted with running, relevant industry groups.
  • Conduct workshops at all levels from strategy, to tactical, to technology
  • Analyst the ability to analyse attendees requirements and issues during the session, and offer strategies and resolutions.
  • Materials creator (written documents, presentations, articles, videos) not necessarily highly polished, but convening a message in a strong yet simple manner.
  • Digital Strategy Knowledge understand the current digital strategy of the country where the Academy is located.
  • Communicator help to shape and communicate the client s vision
  • Chairman ability to impartially chair industry sessions
  • Empathy able to understand the issues facing the client organisations

Network have an existing industry network of connections that can be utilised for in-demand guest speakers etc.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
